1. What is your athletic background and how did you get involved with modeling?
Stand Out Athlete in Football, Basketball, & Baseball from age 5 to high school. Played a year of Semi-Pro Football. I use to get into a lot of fights. I may or may not have been in several street fights for cash. Don’t tell mom, lol. I began training in mixed martial arts and actually planned on trying to fight professionally, but I ended up falling into the modeling/acting industry. Mom ended up being right as aways, because she hated when I was training in MMA and didn’t want my face to get hit.
2. What do you love most about modeling?
“I actually wrote a very in depth answer to this on my Members Only Website, so you will have to be a subscriber to fully understand my response to this question.” TeamShredKing.com
3. What keeps you motivated?
My motivation has changed over the years. My 1st heart break my senior year of high school really took a toll on me. My girlfriend at the time cheated on me with my “best friend” of eight years and like an idiot I took her back. I was in the top 10 percentile going into my junior year of high school, but began skipping homework, taking tests, and even ditching class just to spend time with her. It ended up screwing me over because right before we graduated and everyone was already accepted into colleges, I was left heart broken as well as graduating dead last in my class. I can only blame myself though. I drank a lot of alcohol and partied a lot thinking that would help me get over her.
4. What were the major milestones that gave you that “extra” motivational boost?
-Getting an agent
-Landing my first magazine (inspirational article with Arnold on the cover)
-Landing my first magazine cover
-Breaking 100,000 followers on Facebook
-Getting the blue checkmark Verification next to my name
-Breaking 1,000,000 followers on Facebook
-Being recognized by so many people on the opposite side of the country just walking around
-Seeing myself on television and realizing I came from a town of 1,500 people where no one makes it out.
-And of course the checks
5. What are your future goals, dreams and plans?
I just want to be happy , successful, able to take care of all mine / my families needs, and keep progressing in every aspect of my life.
6. What does your current training split look like, and what do you like most abou it?
Everything till failure. Just kill it plain and simple. Don’t listen to all the stuff your read in books. Actually try it out and apply it to yourself to see what works best.
7. What are some of your best tips for someone who wants to break into the modeling world?
Your reputation is all you have. Make as many connections as you can and be nice to everyone. Remember, you never know if a person is on their way up or way down.
8. What’s the best advice you would give to someone wanting ripped or shredded abs?
Its 70% nutrition & 30% working out. Once you lose the “Im so strong & lift heavy weight” ego then you will see results. I was that guy for a while, then realized that wasn’t working. Its all trial and error. My website www.TeamShredKing.com makes it so you don’t have to guess what works and doesn’t so you can achieve your dream body without having to guess what works and what doesn’t.
9. What does your off-season bulking (eating) plan look like?
I don’t like bulking. Bulking is for bodybuilders and I don’t lift to “get huge” The way I see it is if I don’t have Abs, then I’m out of a job. The only reason I workout is to deal with my depression and anxiety from the death of my best friend.
10. What does your cutting (eatting) plan look like?
If I need to get super shredded I tweak my fat and carbohydrate intake. Its all scientific and mathematical equations. Pretty simple once you’ve been doing it as long as I have.
11. What are some of the biggest training mistakes you’ve made?
“Ego Lifting” – Being that douchebag that loads up super heavy weight and sacrificing form just to feel / look strong. Its all about time under tension and form. I’ve lost 1/3 of my strength getting the body I have, but its so worth it for the aesthetic look. I enjoy having an 8 pack year round and only benching 225 for 10 reps rather than have no abs and bench 300 pounds for 10 reps.
12. What are some of your favorite supplements and why?
Protein obviously because its tricky trying to hit my protein intake of 250g of protein a day. Id rather drink a shake that has 50grams of protein rather than eat the 6 ounces of chicken. I eat my normal food & if I can hit my macronutrient intake for protein, shakes just make it simple. I love pre-workout because I’m addicted to caffein (not a good think) & yes I’m a big coffee drinker. CLA & Fish Oil is crucial as well. Don’t forget your micronutrients and take a multivitamin. My new fat burner I formulated.
13. Favorite activites and hobbies you enjoy when away from the gym?
Spending time with family, fishing, basketball, football, anything of that nature.
14. What newbie mistakes did you make when you first started modeling?
Yes, I didn’t know what I was doing. Research and practice before hand.
15. Any last advice for beginners or anyone looking to get into modeling?
Remember where you came from & always stay grounded to your roots.
16. Any upcoming projects you are working on?
