Hello everyone, my name is DJ Lantz and I am a model with Elite Model Agency. I was born and raised in New Hampshire in the small town of New London. I attended the University of Hartford in Connecticut on a NCAA Div. I got a golf scholarship where I majored in Economics and Finance and graduated Magna Cum Laude (3.6 GPA and above). I moved to Jupiter, FL in 2013 to pursue professional golf career.
1. What is your athletic background and how did you get involved with modeling?
My life has revolved around sports and completion for as long as I can remember. In my younger years I played soccer, tennis, golf, basketball, football, racing dirtbikes, skateboarding, baseball, and lacrosse. As soon as the snow came, I would be snowboarding. I spent the winters at Mt. Sunapee but would travel on occasion for contests. I had a great crew I would ride with and progress with, and at 15 years old I was planning on bailing on college to snowboard professionally…sorry mom. My snowboarding career came to a sudden stop when I broke my tibia (shin bone) at 16. I decided I didn’t want to spend my summers recovering from my winter injuries. I cannot sit still for 5 minutes, so taking months off because of injuries wasn’t going to work out well.
I went on to make all state recognition in both lacrosse and golf and received a golf scholarship to play in college at The University of Hartford (Div. 1 NCAA).
After college I decided to move to Jupiter, FL and pursue professional golf instead of taking a job offer I had in finance. I played mini tour events and state opens before failing to get through Q school. During the time i suffered a back injury while working out that hindered my ability to practice and play without sharp pain. For about 6 months i was unable to play, but it was also a good time to reflect and make decisions about the future.
During my time as a professional golfer I had was getting product from New Balance Golf. They decided to shoot a catalog and asked if I would be willing to help them out. I had no experience in front of the camera, but accepted. It was a great day shooting with Robb Aaron Gordon and I was impressed with the outcome of the images. It was those images (and some luck) that lead to my signing with Elite.
2. What do you love most about modeling?
So far I have been in the modeling industry for about 6 months and I have really enjoyed it. What I love most is traveling and meeting/working with new people.
3. What keeps you motivated?
I have never had any issues staying motivated. Because I am so competitive, I want to be the best at whatever I do. However, progress and results never hurt!
4. What were the major milestones that gave you that “extra” motivational boost?
Signing with elite was definitely a milestone for me. I knew it was only the beginning, but I was excited for the journey.
5. What are your future goals, dreams and plans?
I want people to know who DJ Lantz is, plain and simple.
6. What does your current training split look like, and what do you like most about it?
This is my training current split, but I like to mix it up every few weeks. Keeping the body confused is key. I like this split because it allows some recovery time in the way it is sequenced.
Monday: Legs/ abs
Tuesday: Chest/ Triceps/ abs
Wednesday: Cardio/ abs
Thursday: Back/ Bis/ abs
Friday: Shoulders/ abs
7. What are some of your best tips for someone who wants to break into the modeling world?
Agencies are going to want to see how you look on camera so I would begin by getting some quality images that you share with the agency.
8. What’s the best advice you would give to someone wanting ripped or shredded abs?
There is no substitute for hard work and a good diet. The sooner you realize food is just fuel, the sooner you will be on your way to shredded abs.
9. What does your off-season bulking (eating) plan look like?
What’s an offseason? Training and diet staying the same 365 days a year!
10. What does your cutting (eating) plan look like?
Nothing significant. If I have a shoot approaching I will limit carbs and increase cardio. But staying consistent and healthy and consistent 365 days a year is the real focus.
11. What are some of the biggest training mistakes you’ve made?
The BIGGEST mistake I made was squatting heavy without warming up properly. That is ultimately what pushed my back over the edge and took me away from playing golf. Since then I have put a large precedent on stretching before and after workouts as well as form.
Another mistake I made was not properly fueling my body before and after workouts. I thought gym sessions were the key, but have since learned the importance of a healthy diet.
12. What are some of your favorite supplements and why?
I currently use Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein, C4 pre workout (when i need that extra boost), Opti-Men Multivitamins, and Fish Oil.
13. Favorite activites and hobbies you enjoy when away from the gym?
As I said I can’t sit still for long so I am very active outside of the gym. Obviously I still love to get out and play some golf with the guys. I live with 2 professional golfers, so its always fun to get out spend some time on the course. I don’t get to spend as much time practicing anymore, but don’t let that fool you, I still can hold my own!
I also really love the ocean and have really enjoyed surfing and paddle boarding here in Jupiter, FL.
14. What newbie mistakes did you make when you first started modeling?
Underestimating Miami traffic!
15. Any last advice for beginners or anyone looking to get into modeling?
Work Hard. Have fun. Don’t be afraid to ask. Enjoy the process.
16. Any upcoming projects you are working on?
Yes, really excited to do my first international shoot during the first week of May. I also would like to spend more time growing my social media presence.
